This activity will provide you with an understanding of the importance of Design and Technology in business by looking a the Graphics Industry and carrying out research for creating a great design.

 Homework:

Take a look at graphics designs around you. collect a few examples of advertisements from a teen magazine and compare them. Can you figure out what the message is trying to communicate?

  • Bring at least 3 examples to class tomorrow mounted on a sheet of paper. You must have the following questions answered about each example:
  • What is the ad trying to sell you?
  • How is the company trying to sell their product? (Any free bees?)
  • Why were you attracted to the ad?
  • What type of magazine did the advertisement come from?
  • What type of research do you think the designers of this ad conducted before creating their designs?
  • Who is the advertisement marketed towards? (Age, Gender?)
  • Why do you think it will or will not sell the product?
  • Any other comments you would like to contribute?

They have contacted the school to inquire about hiring on students to create advertisement campaigns for their new products. They understand that the students in the Technology education class have been studying design and technology concepts and would like to see what you've got! You will be given a design brief to solve. Read it carefully. Don't cut corners! The top students will be hired on to develop Tsosie & Daughters new toy line advertising campaign. Good Luck!

 Design Brief:

You are to develop a product out of the shapes given. (See below)) You must also produce an advertisement for a magazine ad tat will sell the product line.

 Research:

Research how industry attempts to sell consumers products. compare and contrast the impact of the advertisement on consumers and products.
