Welcome to the Hermosa Valley School Band directed by Ken Harrison!  We are very proud to be in our 4th year of band, with alumni of the program going on to perform in with the Mira Costa Band!  Look forward to many great performances, including a Winter and Spring Concert & Dinner, Hermosa Little League Opening Ceremonies, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and many other school and community performances!

Hermosa Valley Band is dedicated to quality music education, cultivating teamwork, individual responsibility, and most of all, a fun and creative musical experience.  Enrich your child's life through music!

Blue Band (beginning) is offered to 4th graders and meets twice a week after school.  In Blue Band, students will learn to read and write music, as well as play a band instrument (listed below).  There is NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY to participate.

Gold Band (intermediate) is offered to 5th-8th graders and meets twice a week after school.  In Gold Band, returning students will be challenged with new music, and continue to develop their music skills to prepare them for entering high school.  New students are welcomed, but private lessons are recommended to supplement the band curriculum.

Cost
Band costs include tuition plus material costs (varies depending on instrument).  Tuition is $250 per semester; make your check payable to HVSF.  Material costs include the band book and the instrument rental or purchase.  Our wonderful “Noteworthy Recycling” program has allowed us to purchase beautiful instruments for Band students to use at no cost!  Please let us know if you need a school-owned instrument. 

How to Register
Step 1 - Choose an Instrument
Students attended the Instrument Petting Zoo at lunchtime in the bowl on Tuesday, 9//8/09.  Band instruments are:  flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion.  Returning students interested in changing instruments, contact Mr. Harrison.

Step 2 – Attend Band Information Night on Tuesday, 9/15/09 at 7:00pm in the MPR
Learn about the band, register, and purchase your band book that night.

Step 3 – Start Band!
Band starts on Wednesday, September 16th.  Band meets in the MPR Music Room right after school.
