3 - 5 Science Program

Thanks to the efforts of parents, staff, and school board members, Hermosa Valley School offers a modular resource science lab.  Designed to give students ‘hands on’ science learning experiences, the program reinforces the California State Science Standards taught in the regular classrooms.  Each module in the lab (Physical Science, Life Science, Earth Science, and Scientific Reasoning) has been designed to offer a number of assignments for each of four academic levels, 1-4.  Students work in pairs, using computer based or practical investigations in conjunction with worksheets completed by filling in tables, plotting graphs, writing responses, or drawing diagrams.  Students complete pre-tests and post assessments individually, and their science lab grade is indicated in the effort category of their report card.
