Hi, my name is Jason Butcher and I currently teach 6th and 8th grade Physical Education.  I have been teaching Physical Education for 12 years and this is my 8th year at Hermosa Valley.  I have also been the school’s Middle School Athletic Director for the past 5 years.  It has been such a tremendous honor to give our athletes an opportunity to participate amongst the rest of the South Bay’s finest athletes. 

I grew up in the South Bay and attended South Torrance High School and was fortunate enough to play Baseball and Soccer for the Spartans.  After High School, I went to El Camino Junior College for 2 years and was able to continue my dream of playing baseball.  I was then given a scholarship to play baseball at a small school in Idaho, the College of Idaho.  It is at the College of Idaho that I graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education and also got to pursue my baseball career even further.  In 1992, upon graduating from the College of Idaho, I was taken in the 13th round of the amateur draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.  I played 4 injury plagued seasons with the Dodgers and was released after 3 surgeries.  The New York Mets organization picked me up the following year, but I was again released due to age and my injury plagued past.  I was very fortunate to have lived my dream and I love my Teaching career.  I have since gone back to school completing my M.A. in Physical Education Administration at Cal State University of Dominguez Hills.

Hermosa Valley has been a great place for me to grow as an educator and to help our youth become well versed in Physical Education.
