Dear View Parents, Guardians and Staff,

Thank you for an amazing school year!  I am so fortunate to be part of this wonderful community called View School!  I would like to thank all the parents and grandparents for your hours of volunteer service, financial support and gifts of time and talent.

To my distinguished staff, I would like to thank each and every one of you for the phenomenal job you do each day in working with our children.  Your dedication and commitment to our students makes Hermosa View a wonderful place.

There are some big changes for the 2009-2010 school year that I would like to make you aware of:

Professional Learning Communities:  every Wednesday will be “Early Out Day,” with all students on modified schedules.  Students will be released earlier so teachers may collaborate regarding curriculum and student progress.  A new bell schedule will be posted on the District’s website over the summer, so stay tuned.

Adopted District Calendar:  at the May School Board meeting a 3-year school calendar was adopted by the Board of Trustees; there are some minor changes that should be noted.  The first day of school  will Wednesday, September 2nd, occurring  before Labor Day.  Please note: this day will also be on the new modified bell schedule, so please plan accordingly.

Expanded List of After School Programs:the District will be expanding the offerings for after-school enrichment programs.  We are looking at courses such as foreign language, art, theater, yoga and more.  More information will be provided at the start of school, so keep your eyes open.

Ms. Gluck’s Coffee Corner:  once a month I will be holding an open session with parents in the morning to discuss what is going on at the school and district level.  This will begin in October, and I hope this will be an excellent forum for parents to come and learn what is going on within the Hermosa Beach City School District! 

In closing, I wish everyone a happy and safe summer.  I look forward to seeing you in the fall.  Best wishes to our 2nd grade students as they end their educational career at View and start their third grade year at Valley School.  You will be missed.
