Annual Mandatory Online & In-Person Training for Employees

All Hermosa Beach City School District (HBCSD) employees are required to complete annual mandatory training. For the 2024-2025 school year, the following online training must be completed:

  • Child Abuse and Mandated Reporter
  • McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Sexual Harassment and Abusive Conduct Prevention

The Alliance of Schools For Cooperative Insurance Programs (ASCIP) E-Learning platform provides all of the above training online. HBCSD employees must complete their training within the designated timeframe. ASCIP is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.


Additionally, starting in the 2024-2025 school year, each school site will host an in-person Workplace Violence Prevention Plan training. Staff hired after the training will be provided an online link to complete the mandated training.

 

Additional Required Training for Specific Roles

All HBCSD employees who regularly use disinfectant wipes must also complete the additional training for Integrated Pest Management through the California State Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR).

Child Abuse and Mandated Reporter

In accordance with Assembly Bil (AB) 1432, all employees must complete mandated reporter training within the first six (6) weeks of each school year, and new hires must complete this training within six (6) weeks of their start date. This training is crucial for the protection of our students and for ensuring that all suspicions of abuse or neglect are promptly reported to the appropriate authorities

 

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act 

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have equal access to free and appropriate public education, including preschools. It mandates that local educational agencies (LEAs) provide annual training for all staff serving homeless students. The California Department of Education requires LEAs to show proof of compliance with annual training.

 

Bloodborne Pathogens

Per Cal/OSHA standards, all employees are required to complete bloodborne pathogens safety training annually. This training provides essential knowledge on how to handle and dispose of bloodborne pathogens safely, reducing the risk of infection and maintaining a safe school environment.

 

Sexual Harassment and Abusive Conduct Prevention

Senate Bill (SB) 1343 mandates that all employees must undergo sexual harassment training every two years to maintain a respectful and safe work environment. This training aims to prevent harassment, promote respect, and ensure that our workplace is free from discrimination and abusive conduct.

  • Non-Supervisory Personnel SB 1343 - This one-hour interactive training is required for all non-supervisory staff, including coaches and substitutes. They must receive training within six months of hire and thereafter complete it again every two years. It ensures that all employees are aware of their responsibilities in preventing and addressing sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • Supervisors AB 1825 - This two-hour interactive training is mandatory for all supervisory staff, including administrative and classified management, athletic directors, school board members, food service leads, maintenance foremen, the executive assistant to the superintendent, and the ASES coordinator. They must receive training within six months of hire and thereafter complete it again every two years. It is designed to equip supervisors with the knowledge to handle harassment issues effectively.

Workplace Violence Prevention Plan

The California Senate Bill 553 (SB 553), which was signed into law on September 30, 2023, requires employers in California to establish, implement, and maintain a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan and training for all employees. After the initial training, employees are required to complete annual training thereafter. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) has issued a fact sheet and FAQs on their Workplace Violence Prevention Guidance and Resources web page.

 

Integrated Pest Management

The California State Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) requires annual training for educational staff who use disinfecting wipes and those exposed to pesticides during their work. This training ensures the safe use of pesticides around children, prevents harmful exposure, and promotes a healthy learning environment.

All HBCSD Employees will receive an email about the Annual Mandatory Online Training prior to the start of the year, with reminders from our District Office to complete these annual training requirements before the deadline.
